“The best piece of opinion writing I've read in a long time“ — Society of Publishers Asia judging panel.
“Tim does what most semiconductor reporters fail to do: he goes to the data first and lets the conclusion embarrass the consensus. In an industry where everyone repeats the same press releases, Tim actually does the work and it shows” — pledged reader.
“We need more intellectual leaders like you” - pledged reader, finance industry
I’m Tim Culpan, and this is Culpium.
I admit that I’m low key and not as outrageous as many other writers in tech. That’s by design. I write the headline, I don’t want to be the headline.
My remit is simple. Deliver exclusive news on the global technology and manufacturing industry, and provide deep analysis and insights on the business of tech, supply chains, and the global economy.
I do not offer: press-release journalism, product reviews, a platform for pitches & corporate branding.
Culpium is about quality and depth. No fluff.
My track record is long. I’ve been in Taiwan more than half my life. For 18 years I was the Taipei technology correspondent and then opinion columnist for Bloomberg News. Throughout that time I broke dozens of stories on the global tech beat, provided nuanced and counter-intuitive insights on business and strategy, and won a handful of journalism awards.
I went independent in 2024 so I could talk directly to you. The journalistic momentum continued. I’ve broken stories ahead of major media, provided analysis others missed, and tracked the AI supply chain at a level of detail even financial institutions can’t match.
From time to time, I provide updates on important political and policy developments in Taiwan because, well, China hands are not Taiwan experts. Understanding the global economy requires understanding Taiwan industry. From tech to textiles, yachts to running shoes, Taiwanese companies are global leaders in multiple domains.
Just six months after its founding, Culpium was a nominee for the prestigious Society of Publishers Asia Awards in the Opinion category. And again a year later — a rare and unusual feat even for large, established media.
But the goal is you.
I believe my readers’ time is as valuable as their money. (I’d be happy to have both, thanks.) So, I won’t spam your inbox with rubbish or irrelevance. My publishing cadence is tight and targeted.
I generally publish every Wednesday morning (US time), but may deliver on other days if there’s breaking news or a scoop to deliver. It’s rare that I publish more than twice in a week. I also co-host the Supply-Chained podcast with Jon Y, whom you might know from his amazing Asianometry Youtube channel.
Finally, there’s CASCI — the Culpium AI Supply Chain Index — an exclusive and proprietary index published every month that tracks the global AI compute rollout.
